Force Power System Empty
PostSubject: Force Power System   Force Power System Icon_minitimeThu Jun 30, 2011 1:22 am

First, Star Wars Chronicles have their own list of Force Powers in which we have gathered from a variety of sources, the most prominent being Wookieepedia. In this list, powers are separated by tiers in the form of stars. These stars are parallel with In Character Ranks and help us monitor the experience and power of characters (i.e. 1 Star = Padawan / 2 Star = Senior Padawan, etc..) When new members are applying for the first time, they are given the option to choose a number of Powers in which their character knows or intends to learn. This number then doubles with each new rank the character acquires as he or she progresses and develops through RP. The number of slots available to a character is based not only on the character's rank, but the class as well. There are three classes, Lightsaber Specialist, Balanced, Force Scholar and each class is allotted a specific number of slots equal to their rank:

Lightsaber Specialists: 3 Force Power Slots per rank, totaling to 15 Slots at a 5 star level
Balanced: 4 Force Power Slots per rank, totaling to 20 Slots at a 5 star level
Force Scholars: 5 Force Power Slots per rank, totaling to 25 Slots at a 5 star level

Once a character earns a promotion into the next tier, they are allotted (X) number of Power Slots associated with their class. However, this does not mean the character immediately learns the Force Powers. Instead, the Slots simply reserve the powers for the character as they attempt to learn, practice, and hone in on these specific powers In Character. Once a certain number of roleplays are completed associated to this power (this could be training, research, or even applying the power in combat on missions), then they will permanently acquire the power. Also, certain powers may follow a certain chain (i.e. Force Push -> Force Wave ->  Force Repulse), in order for the character to have acquired Force Repulse. Those powers that will require a chain will be posted on their designated alignment threads.

The exception to this rule are rank 1 abilities. Due to the fact that rank 1 powers are the very basic abilities in with Jedi and Sith build off of, those powers are automatically given to characters Rank 2 or above. If a player wishes to roleplay their character at rank 1, they are free to do so but will have to roleplay their character learning these abilities. Once this character gets promoted to Rank 2, he would be given a number of points equivalent to his class (i.e. 10 points as a Force Scholar)

Force Power System Empty
PostSubject: Force Powers in Combat   Force Power System Icon_minitimeSun Jan 03, 2016 1:58 pm

As this is primarily a freeform combat continuity (we are working towards implementing a dice system as an option), there must be some rules to ensure that combat is a close to balanced as it can be. First and foremost, we are using what is known as the "prep system." What this means is that if Character "A" wanted to channel and then release a powerful Force Throw onto Character "B," he would not be able to make this action in a single post, but would instead require two posts to complete the action. This is shown in Character "A" post as (1/2) or (2/2) . It is possible for a character to channel their power beyond the number of posts required if they desire to unleash a stronger than normal force power, but there would be some restraints in mobility and additional concentration to execute this feat.

We understand that with such a vast list of powers, it can be confusing to understand exactly how many preps are required for a certain ability. In hopes of keeping things freeform and fun, we are only applying preps to offensive and defensive abilities (offense: force throw, lightning, stasis, etc/ defense: force barrier, protection, bubble, etc.) and are not forcing you to prep passive or sustained powers (i.e. force sense, speed). We do expect you to fight fairly and realistically, or as realistic as one can get in a Star Wars setting. If you're using Force Sense and Speed to dodge every single power or attack being thrown at you without showing signs of fatigue, then an admin would have to step in. Lastly, preps vary depending on ranks:

Rank 1: No Preps
Rank 2: No Preps
Rank 3: Two Preps (1/2) -> (2/2)
Rank 4: Three Preps (1/3) -> (2/3) -> (3/3)
Rank 5: Four Preps (1/4) -> (2/4) -> (3/4) -> (4/4)

The exception to this are associated with the Force Scholars, who passively have a prep reduction of 1 per rank. (rank 3= no prep, rank 4= 2 preps, rank 5= 3 preps).
